15. GREAT WHITE LUNCH
The great white was scouring the surface of the ocean on the beach at Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He was looking for lunch when he accidentally came too close to the shore. And, what happens next, is truly an amazing story…
By chasing the sea gulls, the shark somehow ended up on the shore and the people around were shocked to see a great white shark so helpless. Some stated that the shark couldn’t survive without water and he’d burn out to the heat. So, the watchers called the harbor master and started lining up with buckets of water to keep the beast cold.
13. EMERGENCY CALL
The Harbor master Stuart Smith arrived as soon as he could and assessed the situation. He told the press that there were 40 people splashing water on the shark, but it looked like it wasn’t enough. “It seemed like it was dead”, said Smith.
12. 90 MINUTES
The shark remained out of water for 90 minutes. The Harbor master decided to tie the shark to a boat and drag him out back to the sea. It might’ve hurt the shark, but it was the best solution available.
11. SAFE AND SOUND
As soon as the shark exited hollow waters, he came to life. The rescuers noticed that he was just dehydrated. They tagged him with a GPS device to monitor his progress and cut the rope.
10. QUICK RECOVERY
The watchers were overjoyed once they saw the shark swimming away on its own. The photos show how happy everyone actually was.
This was just a prime example of how even a predator like a shark can get lost sometimes. In the sea, he might be the predator, but on the shore, he was just a creature waiting for help.
8. GOING VIRAL
The footage of this shark went absolutely viral. It was the sort of thing you post on social media with the caption “Faith in Humanity restored”. Regardless, it was a brave feat by the people at the beach. There aren’t a lot of folks willing to help a shark that could rip their faces off even if he was half dead.
7. JAMISON THE SHARK
The shark was named Jamison and something pretty rare happened. He grew fondness of the place he was rescued and he went back there exactly a year later.
6. THE GPS
The GPS belonged to The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy who announced on Twitter on June 29, 2016 that the shark was back at the shore and stayed there for some time. According to the reports, he was very comfortable just hovering near the MA Coastline.
5. SHARK RESEARCH
The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy is a group of people constantly researching about aquatic life, particularly one life, sharks. They educate the public about great whites and let them know how they can protect the wild life.
4. CONSERVATION EFFORTS
The efforts of the AWSC are going a long way to rescue sharks like Jamison. They are tracking dozens of white sharks and trying their best to learn more about the species. But, what happened with Jamison?
3. TWITTER ACCOUNT
The folks at the AWSC took the time to create a Twitter account for this shark. The bio as well as the reference to Harry Potter are pretty sweet. Follow the shark at t/@SharkJamison.
2. THE BOOK
Jamison’s success would continue on when he had a children’s book written after him. The book named “A Shark! Named Jamison” was written by Consie Berghausen and her daughter Nina.
1. LIVING ON
The Conservancy has constantly been updating the public on the adventures of Jamison and plan to keep doing so. He’s gone as far as South Carolina but keeps coming back…
