Kittens are everywhere around us. Those poor little creatures can’t survive on their own and more often than not, they end up in huge trouble. And, the case would’ve been the same for a cat in Lakeland, Florida if it wasn’t for one police officer…

ON PATROL

Lakeland Police Department

Duty Officer Mike Cardin was doing his job while he was on patrol in Lakeland when one random night, he was about to do what he did everyday when the scenario would completely change. As a patrol officer, he was expecting to find threats, but who knew he was about to find a kitten.

THE LATE SHIFT

Lakeland Police Department

Officer Cardin was at his overnight shift when some called the Lakeland PD saying that they found an abandoned kitten in a box in some alley. This wasn’t exactly someone the PD deals with, but Cardin thought that he should check it out.

It turns out that the call was right. There was a cat sitting in a box shivering under a lamp post. And, the cat looked up at the officer with those cute eyes, and Cardin knew that he had to help her.

The officer threw away that treacherous box, put her in a blanket and drove her to the Police Department. He found a box from the evidence department and put her in that new box while he wondered what to do with the kitty.

THE SUSPECT

Cardin did the reasonable thing and called animal control as soon as he could. But, moment before animal control could arrive on the scene, the kitty picked out her target and struck him with her cute tactics. And, she ended up with Sergeant Brian Wallace falling in love with her.

THE TARGET

Sgt. Wallace was as tough as someone can be. He was a sergeant for two years and worked in homicide. Rest assured, he was no match for the grey kitten. He fell in love as soon as he saw her.

Wallace was at the Police Department through the rest of the night and because he didn’t want the cat to stay alone, he kept her with him for the rest of the night.

The kitten was so calm that she was just sitting on Sgt. Wallace’s lap as he was doing some paperwork. She fell asleep there and the sergeant was slowly making the decision to keep her.

PARTNERS

The cat would actually become Wallace’s new partner. The PD joked that the cat slept on her first night at the job. Regardless, Wallace took her on his run later that night. Yup, the cat got to ride shotgun in a police cruiser.

Wallace said that he came just after Cardin had left the kitten in the PD. He said that this was the start of the shift and he was at the station for the next 8-12 hours. But, it would’ve taken Animal Control about 10 hours to come to the station since it was the middle of the night. Wallace stated, “I just couldn’t leave her in that box for the next 10 hours”.

ADOPTED

Well, it was settled. By the time Animal Control got to the station, Wallace had made the decision to adopt her. Wallace stated the reason, “That little face… I was done”.
