#25. Big - Susan And Josh
In the movie, Tom Hanks plays Josh, a young boy aged 12 who gets trapped in the body of a middle-aged man in his 30s. The film may be funny but it turns out to be quite creepy when Josh meets Susan, a woman in her 30s. The plot is quite twisted when we think about it: an adult dating an underage boy.
Elizabeth Perkins plays Susan, an adult who falls in love with a man that is nothing but a child. You can easily tell by his attitude that he is immature and that he doesn't have any love experience at all, but this doesn't stop Susan from dating him. We aren't going to judge here, since Susan couldn't have possibly known about Josh's age. Besides, both actors have the same age in real life. But the whole story is a creepy one.
#24. Love In The Afternoon - Frank And Ariane
The lovely Audrey Hepburn plays Ariane, a young cello student who overhears a conversation of people planning to kill a businessman, Frank Flannagan. They met when she tries to tell him that he was going to be killed. At that time, Audrey was 28 years younger than Gary Cooper.
Why is it that all movies have huge age differences between couples? We'll never know. In this movie, Ariane's dad eventually learns about their love affair, but the creepiest fact is the ending. We learn that, after all, they got married and live together as husband and wife. Despite their inappropriate relationship, they had a happy ending.
#23. The Rum Diary - Paul And Chenault
Johnny Depp is well-known for dating women younger than him. In this movie, his character shares the same attraction that Depp had in real life. He plays Paul, an author who starts dating Chenault, an attractive woman who is 23 years younger than him. We have to admit that Depp's charm doesn't stop us from pointing out this huge age gap.
Anyone could claim that this movie is based on a true story. Well, though it's not, it does share some details with the real life of the actors. Johnny and Amber Heard met on set and got married shortly after. However, their marriage didn't turn out the way we expected, and the two had a tumultuous divorce.
#22. Venus - Maurice And Jessie
In the Spanish movie Venus, Maurice falls in love with his friend's grand-niece, Jessie. Despite being sick and about to die from prostate cancer, he was interested in this young girl. He was told that Jessie was always causing trouble, and also a bit annoying. This didn't stop Maurice from reaching out to her.
It seems that women of his age were either gone or unavailable, because he was very interested in this young lady who was 50 years younger than him. Throughout the movie, they developed a love-hate relationship. The name "Venus" is a result of the nickname that Maurice gives Jessie. Maybe he is giving one last shot to his love life, but he might have aimed too far from his target.
#21. Big Love - Rhonda And Roman
In the HBO series, Rhonda was 15 years old when Roman asked her to be his wife. Roman was a polygamous man who was leading the Juniper Creek Compound. Do you want to know his age? You'd better hold tight, because Roman was in his 80s when he got engaged to Rhonda. Yes, in his 80s. Not a typo. And there are weirder facts in this series.
In the drama, Roman's son is 59 years old, so we could say that Rhonda's stepson could be her father, which is quite weird. Another weird fact is that Roman had fourteen wives. Well, we can truly understand that those times were shockingly different from our times. What's strange is that, in the series, age gaps are pretty frequent but no one seems to any problem with it at all.
#20. Gangster Squad - Mickey And Grace
Let's analyze the actors in detail. Emma Stone was only 25 years old when she played Grace. Sean Penn was old enough to be her father because he had a daughter who was 24 years old, just one year older. In the movie, Grace is both Mickey's lover and his teacher of social etiquette.
Ryan Gosling is also part of this movie, but directors decided that Emma would fit perfectly with Sean (really?). It is quite weird, but the truth is that it wasn't Emma's first time playing a role involving guys older than her. In fact, she played in other movies where her character was attracted to old men. However, Sean is the oldest man she ever dated in fiction.
#19. Riverdale - Archie And Mrs. Grundy
Having a crush on your hot teacher may happen to every teenager, as pictured in the series Riverdale. The story shows a charming woman around her 30s who starts having feelings for one of her students, Archie. He was just finishing his freshman year when this happened. No matter how attractive you may find a student, you should remember that it is mega illegal!
But there's more to it. Archie's father was interested in Mrs. Grundy, but he stopped pursuing her when he realized that his son was interested in her, too. What's normal is that his dad is into a woman his age, but a teenage boy having a crush on his school teacher is totally out of place, not only because Archie was underage, but also because the whole school could soon learn about their affair if they were seen together.
#18. Dawson's Creek - Pacey And Tamara
At the beginning of the show we meet Tamara Jacobs, a middle-aged woman who was after Pacey, a teenage boy who was 15 years old at that moment. As a result, there was a heated debate over their love affair, but the man presiding Warner Bros decided that the director of the series, Kevin Williamson, could continue with the script since the show wasn't going to last for a very long time.
In the series, there were so many rumors spreading around about the couple's love affair that they had to appear in court. Pacey had to lie to the judge, though he was under oath, in order to set Tamara free and avoid her being imprisoned. At least, they didn't end up together.
#17. Glee - Puck And Shelby
Do you remember their story? In season 1, Quinn was dating Finn but she had a baby with her boyfriend's best friend, Puck. That was the moment when Rachel's mom, Shelby, comes into the scene. Shelby decided to adopt the baby. Because of this, Puck and Shelby started to have a close relationship, which eventually led to a romantic relationship.
They could easily be mistaken for mother and son, because Shelby was around 40 years old when she started seeing Puck, who was in high school. Their relationship is weird, given the circumstances. Some may think that mom and dad reunited for the baby, but this is nothing but a weird case. We should give them points for having such incredible voices, and that's it.
#16. The Walking Dead - Abraham And Rosita
We should admit that finding a partner in the new zombie era is not easy at all. Well, let's just be fair, there weren't many options available. In the series, Rosita was about to step into her 30s and Abraham was almost in his 50s. Despite the age difference, they had a close relationship from the very start. However, everything changed when Abraham's character made a twist in the series.
Abraham's behavior changed in the series when he started acting violently towards Rosita. They were able to settle their disputes but, unfortunately, he broke up with her. He told Rosita that when they first met, he believed Rosita was the last woman alive, but he realized he was wrong. Whether it's true or not, their relationship is quite weird.
#15. Husbands And Wives - Gabe And Rain
Everyone knows about Woody Allen's scandalous relationship with Soon Yi Previn, who is much younger than him and his ex-wife's daughter. Woody is 34 years older than Soon. Now, back to fiction, this film also involves a weird relationship where a teacher pushes a friendship with one of his students into something more, which is clearly improper.
In this movie, Gabe starts having a close friendship with his student, Rain. Throughout the story, we see that Gabe has a strong confidence with Rain, since he lets her comment on his current work. Everything goes far beyond the limit when he goes to Rain's birthday party, where they have a romantic moment and kiss. Let me remind you... she was 21 and he was almost 60. These kind of relationships were romanticized back in the day, but nowadays we know they are absolutely inappropriate.
#14. Lolita - Humbert And Dolores
This old and weird film tells the story of a man, Humbert, who is obsessed with girls between 9 and 14 years old. In my world he would be called pedophile, but in this movie it seems normal that Humbert falls in love (or, is obsessed with) Dolores Haze, who is only 12 years old. Those were creepy times.
Humbert pretends to have feelings for Dolores' mom. In this way, he would have an excuse to see Dolores and start dating her. This excuse is no longer needed when Dolores' mother has an accident and passes away. From that moment, Humbert was free to push the relationship further. He was so obsessed that he became terribly controlling and dominating. I think it's enough pedophilia for the day.
#13. Léon The Professional - Léon And Mathilda
It's inappropriate to teach a young girl how to shoot and kill, but there are more disturbing things about this movie. A girl named Mathilda is saved by Léon after her whole family is murdered. He takes care of her and she kind of develops a crush on him. That's a nice gesture, but we have to set boundaries, since their age gap was of 33 years.
In the movie, Natalie Portman falls for the guy who saves her life. It's quite strange, considering their huge age gap, but nothing happens between them. In the original script, however, Mathilda becomes Léon's lover. But those parts were deleted from the script for two main reasons. One, Natalie Portman's parents wouldn't accept it. Two, those scenes would make a huge impact both on the young actress and on the American society.
#12. Six Days, Seven Nights - Robin And Quinn
This story begins with a plane crash. Robin and Quinn were flying when they got hit by a thunderstorm and ended up on a solitary island. The fact that Robin was about to get married and Quinn was dating someone didn't stop this couple from being in love with each other.
Despite the cheating part, the difference in age between the couple is significant. Robin was about 25 years old, whereas Quinn could've be mistaken for her dad. This picture is quite common in movie romances. I wouldn't say it's a trend, but it certainly was a trend in the past. Luckily, directors are now exploring new ideas.
#11. Something's Gotta Give - Harry And Marin
Sometimes the actor and the character he is interpreting are alike, and sometimes it feels like they are both the same person. The second case is a clear example of Jack Nicholson. He used to date Lara Flynn Boyle, and he was more than 30 years older than her. This is not fiction, we are talking about a real-life case.
We should note that, when he played Harry, he played a character who was attracted to women younger than him. Coincidence? I think not. In the film, Harry dates Marin, a woman who is 30 years old. Finally, he ends up dating her mother. Well... that's more appropriate, but is it though?
#10. Pretty Little Liars - Aria And Ezra
Fans of PLL, don't get me wrong but... have you ever noticed Ezra and Aria's age difference? I know, It's just 7 years, and we have to admit that the difference may not be so controversial like others who have +40 years of difference in age. But can we agree on something? Dating a teenage girl is not OK, even though Pennsylvania says the opposite (16 is the age of consent).
Another creepy fact about this couple is that they also had a teacher-student relationship. Well, I can handle a 7-year age gap, but is dating one of your students even legal? This kind of dynamic is forbidden in most places for a reason, and while Ezra is a good guy, this shouldn't be allowed.
#9. Gilmore Girls - Paris And Asher
This couple may not give you the wrong impression since Paris was, legally speaking, not too young when she started a relationship with her Yale professor, Asher. He was 62 years old and Paris was more than 40 years younger than him.
You might be thinking that their romance started between classes, but that's not the case. Asher and Paris met thanks to Richard, Rory's grandfather and an old classmate of Asher. So, yes, Asher could be Paris' grandad. Weird, isn't it? But there's more to it! Asher had a reputation for dating female students, and it didn't stop Paris from starting a love affair with him.
#8. American Pie - Finch And Stifler's Mom
This movie pictures what commonly happens with teenage boys, something creepy and weird: teens tend to be attracted to moms. Don't ask me why, it's just what happens nowadays. Imagine if this passion is equally corresponded? Well, then we have a problem. This is the case of Stifler's mom, who was attracted to Finch. Finch was a teenager and she was a 40-yeard-old woman.
Stifler's mom was surprised to see that Finch wasn't like a typical teen guy, actually he seemed to be a grown-up. Finch's first time with a woman was with Stifler's mom (was he 18 years old? We don't think so). They were caught red-handed by Stifler, who fainted when he saw the two together. We would've reacted in the same way. Poor Stifler, nobody really deserves to have that picture in mind. Disgusting.
#7. Game Of Thrones - Sansa Stark And Petyr Baelish
Petyr, also known as Littlefinger, went full Jacob Black from Twilight and fell in love with the daughter of the woman he actually had a crush on. He was really crazy about Catelyn, the character he was in love with for many years, and that love eventually passed onto Catelyn's daughter, Sansa.
Wait wait... going back. Did he actually fall in love with a woman who could be his daughter? Yes! What we learn is that Petyr fell in love with Sansa because she was a reminder to him of young Catelyn. Still, Sansa was way too young for him and was under his care, which resulted in an imbalance of power. Luckily, Sansa does not love him back.
#6. Entrapment - Robert And Virginia
The fact that this couple was very passionate cannot be denied, because their connection was truly romantic. However, we can tell by just looking at the photo the huge difference in age between them. It's so obvious that they can easily be mistaken as father and daughter.
Here we have another case of real-life situations. Yes, it never gets old. And it seems that directors really like having age gaps between fictional couples.Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Virginia in the movie, is married to Michael Douglas in real life, who is 73 years old. Let's do the math. It's a 25-year difference.
#5. Manhattan - Isaac And Tracy
Woody Allen did it again! Did he cast for every movie where age gaps are obvious? Probably yes. In Manhattan, Woody plays Isaac, a divorced writer aged 42. In the film, Isaac starts dating Tracy. What we realize is that Isaac is not so in love with Tracy, but Tracy actually is! So Isaac continues dating Tracy because he doesn't want to hurt her feelings.
It feels like we are getting used to watching Woody Allen with younger women, but don't get used to it! Honestly, the couple could perfectly resemble a father-daughter relationship. In the end, Isaac broke up with Tracy since he believed the difference in age was considerably huge. Well, you could've realized before, couldn't you?
#4. Notes On A Scandal - Sheba And Steven
The word scandal defines the main issue in this movie. Sheba Hart was an art teacher who was 30 years old. She has sexual encounters with one of her students, Steven, who was only 15 years old. The scandal starts when another teacher finds out about their sexual affair - she actually saw the couple together.
As they were caught red handed, Sheba had to break up with Steven. But nothing turns out as expected, and eventually, the whole school learns about their sexual affair. It's worth mentioning that any relationship between teachers and students can be a huge problem. Plus, in this case, it's quite disturbing thinking that when Sheba was his age, Steven wasn't even born!
#3. Third Person - Michael And Anna
This movie is a drama that involves three love stories, one of them being Anna and Michael. It cannot be denied that they had a strong and very passionate connection (and some heated fights, too.) This connection can be defined as a love-hate relationship, since the couple was quite egotist at some point and eventually find peace in their intimate moments.
Some may think think that the age gap is not a problem. In fact, you can't even tell their exact age by looking at their photo. Well, in this case Anna was half his age, which means that Michael could be her father.
#2. Harold And Maude
Creepy stories keep showing up, so is the case of this movie, where Harold 20 years old and Maude is 79 years old. They have their first encounter at a funeral, which we learn that is one of the pastimes that they have in common. Do they have anything else in common, though? Well, the answer is no.
The truth is that they don't share anything but funerals. Despite their different personalities, they had a solid friendship, which eventually lead to more, and Harold asks Maude to be his wife. This weird story is nothing more than a creepy relationship of a boy who falls in love with a woman who could be his grandmother. But we have to admit that the film is quite good.
#1. Game Of Thrones - Daenerys Targaryen And Khal Drogo
In the series, Daenerys, aged 15, ties the knot with Khal Drogo, who is probably around his 30s at that time. However, in the novel, Daenerys was even younger: she got married when she was 13 years old. What happened is that the writer, George R. R. Martin, decided to finally change the age and increase it a little bit, admitting that when he created Daenerys' character, he made her too young.
We believe that whether Daenerys is 13 or 15 years old, it doesn't change the fact that she married a man twice her age. Not only her own brother made her marry a wild and savage man, but she also did not consent to the marriage and only fell in love with her husband months into the relationship. Then again, this did happen a lot in the Middle Ages.
