I had the first pick in the draft and took the obvious choice which is Albert Pujols. Pujols is the perfect mix of every major stat category and is a huge help to anybody’s team. But having the first pick comes with not having another selection until the end of the second round. When my pick was up I took one of the most underrated players in the draft…Jacoby Ellsbury. Ellsbury could very much be a steal at twenty-fourth overall. He does not have the high power numbers expected from a top outfielder, but will get you a ridiculous amount of steals and post decent totals in average and in runs. I was glad to snag Ellsbury this low.

When I took Adrian Gonzalez my first thought was to be mad at myself. I definitely could have been helped out more by taking a top pitcher like Sabathia or Grienke, and I already have Pujols at first base. After thinking about it I realized it may have been not that bad of a pick. He will post good power numbers in my utility spot and may also be used as trade bait for a better player if he gets off to a good start.

The next two picks of Cano and Upton was a nice way to bounce back from the ugly Gonzalez pick. Upton could provide me with some power and speed while Cano is a top second baseman who is helped out by Yankee Stadium.

Rounds 6-9 are all players who have the potential to be in the high end of their position.

I like getting Elvis Andrus this late (round 10) because he is a potential sleeper candidate. Playing in a stacked Texas line-up will help him out and there really aren’t many other shortstops with his potential this late in the draft

In rounds 11-16 there is only one pick I really like and that is Edwin Jackson. After switching over to the National league he could put up numbers slightly better than last year with the Tigers.

The rest of the draft was decent and there are only two other picks I like and those are the last two of the draft. I am hoping that Matsuzaka will play like it is 2008 again, and that Scherzer will be the pitcher everybody says he is capable of being.

This is just a mock draft, but I treated it like an actual draft while analyzing it. That is why I said things like I was actually playing with this team.
