GO Citrus Heal Diabetes

Controlling your blood sugar may be a challenge for you if you are diabetic.Despite of ponderous spending on drugs, pills, insulin injections we end up with what we had before–DIABETES.

There is now extensive evidence on the optimal management of diabetes, offering the oppurtunity of impoving the immediate and long term quality of life of those with the condition.Unfortunately such optimal management is not reaching many, perhaps, the majority of people who could benefit.Accordingly, the International Diabetes Federation{IDF} has developed a global guideline, for Type 2 Diabetes in 2005.There are in total 19 sections concentrating on various health care domains and incuding topics of importance and controversy.Major emphasis has been laid on lifestyle management and glucose control levels in section 5 and 6 respectively.

The type 2 diabetes is the most universal type of diabetes all over the world. Its the most common form of diabetes.About 90-95% of people with diabetes have type 2.This type of diabetes is most often associated with older age, obesity, family history ofdiabetes, previous history of gestational diabetes, physical inactivity and certain ethinicities.About 80% of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight. It is also called as NIDDM [NON INSULIN DEPENDENT DIABETES MELLITUS]—or adult onset diabetes, because it comes on later in life due to dietary choices and way of life rather than genetic conditions.

It is a metabolic disorder that is characterized by high blood glucose in context of insulin resistance and relative insulin defieciency. There is decreased disposal of glucose in peripheral tissues due to insulin resistance and over production of glucose by the liver, defects in pancreatic beta cells functioning and beta cell mass.

The symptoms of type 2 diabetes develop gradually.their onset is not as sudden as in type 1.Symptoms include fatigue, frequent urination, increases thirst and hunger, weight loss, blurred vision and slow healing of wounds and sores. Some people have no symptoms at all.

Type 2 diabetes is avoidable, but the issue is that many people wait until its too late to take the bull by horns.best prevention for diabetes 2 is hale and hearty diet and reducing the sugar consumed, at the same time increasing fruits, vegetables and fibrous foods will have the utmost effect

Grapefruit and diabetes may share a close link. Some recent studies suggest that eating grapefruit can help in controlling the disease. One recent report suggests that grapefruit may become an effective part of the treatment of type 2 diabetes as it contains the antioxidant NARINGENIN.

Naringenin is specifically noted for being able to breakdown fatty acids in the liver, similar to what happens when a person undergoes fasting.

LXR alpha is a receptor in the liver involved in maintaining balance of fatty acids or lipids in addition to controlling inflammation.Sugars activate it leading to the creation of fats that are stored in liver.Fasting stimulates the release of different receptor called PPAR alpha due to which fatty acids are broken down into ketones.A related process increases insulin senstivity.Grapefruit breaks down fatty acids in the same way the body does during fasting. Therefore grapefruit is also capable of treating abnormal levels of cholesterol, warding off the metabolic syndrome and improving person’s tolerance to glucose;factors that are all associated with diabetes.

Estimated glycemic load of the grapefruit is 7..Ruby red grapefruit provides an added bonus – lycopene the phytochemical that prevents bad LDL CHOLESTEROL  from oxidising and damaging the arterial wall.

However manynhealth experts do not encourage patients with diabetes to increase their consumption of grapefruit especially if they are also taking medications like statins.

Grapefruit affects the enzyme CYP3A in intestine and liver, and therfore alters the rate of medicine absorbed and removed from the body. The end result of that is the affect of being an overdose of the drug even if thecorrect dose is taken.
