Most people at some time in their lives will have suffered from insomnia, whether it is just a matter of getting off to sleep or being very restless throughout the night. In recent times there has also been a tendency to use drugs when treating insomnia, which are not actually curing the cause of the sleeping problems they are only treating the symptoms.
Although taking pills for insomnia is not a long term solution they can help many people in the short term. There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep. Especially when you have been feeling tired just before going to bed and then laying there wide awake until finally you get out bed and either read a book or watch TV.
8 Tips on How to Cure Insomnia
1. Exercise Promotes Better Sleep
If you are having problems sleeping, the first thing I would try is, make sure you get some sort of exercise during the day, and even if you are a fairly active person anyway, a walk in the evening might help. My wife and I try to walk about five miles every day, which we find helps us sleep. And if we don’t do our walk, we quite often can’t sleep.
2. Imagine You Are on the Beach
Another thing you can try, when you first go to bed, is, keep thinking of something pleasant, it could be a holiday, sitting on the beach listening to the waves roll in, or anything or anyone that relaxes you. This has a much better chance of sending you to sleep, than lying there thinking about all those negative things in our lives.
3. Don’t Eat or Drink Too Much
Eating a heavy meal very late at night will most probably keep you and your stomach awake. Also, I find that when consuming too much alcohol late in the evening, I go off to sleep initially, then after two or three hours I wake up and cant go back to sleep at all. So try to avoid these two things.
4. Have a Hot Milky Drink
Another good way to cure insomnia is, I’ve always been told ever since I was a kid, that taking a hot milky drink just before going to bed can help you go off to sleep. I can’t stand hot milky drinks myself, but many of my friends do this and it seems to work for them.
5. Set Your Body Clock
Try going to bed at the same time every night, as this will tell your body clock what to do and what to expect. Therefore if your body is expecting to go to sleep at a certain time it most probably will. Also if you are watching TV just before going to bed, make sure its something pleasant or funny, and not all the worlds depressing problems.
6. Relaxing Bath
Many people, especially you ladies out there, quite often have a bath before going to bed. This is a good way to relax and prevent insomnia, also, why not put a few candles around the bath, and make it even more relaxing. If you are really lucky your husband or wife will bring you a hot milky drink and a cookie. All this will definitely help you in getting off to sleep.
7. Don’t nap
If you are the type of person that likes a short nap during the day, try to go without it. When you are ready to go to bed, make sure you are really tired, if you are not tired when going to bed, you will only lay there worrying about not sleeping, and what you should have done today and shall I do it tomorrow and this will not help you to cure your insomnia.
The only other helpful and natural way of how to cure insomnia, is by having sex. I have not experienced this personally of course, but many people do say, it makes you very sleepy afterwards, and hopefully, not during.
If you are suffering from insomnia I hope the tips above help you in getting off to sleep at night.
