How to prepare to apply for social security benefits

If you’re reaching age 65 soon, you should plan on applying for the benefit three months prior to your 65 birthday. The three months will be a space to allow approval of the application. You will need to have all required documents in order to have the process go on.

You can call in and get your social security benefit of course and see how much you have added up. Your spouse can also apply too if they’re reaching the age. You can apply over the phone, in person and some part of it can be done online while some parts are not available online.

You can call this number to begin applying 1-800-772-1213. You can make an appointment to do an over the phone application. You can also set an appointment at the local Social Security office.

You will be required to show proof of the following information when you apply:

Your Social Security number
Your birth certificate
Your W-2 form or self-employment tax return for l
Driver License
Military document if apply
