Rent (The Musical) Review

The DVD: Rent on DVD is by far the BEST movie I’ve ever seen. It is heart warming, sad, and happy all in one. It evokes so many emotions. The actors and actresses in the movie are absolutely amazing. “Rent” covers the controversial topics of sexuality, aids, sex, drugs etc. You will hear 8 stories from 8 peoples’ lives and watch as they all connect to one another. The musical numbers in the movie are phenomenal. Personally, my favorite’s are; Take Me or Leave Me sung by Maureen (Idina Menzel) and Joanne (Tracie Thoms), La Vie Boheme sung by the whole cast, and Another Day sung by Roger (Adam Pascal) Mimi (Rosario Dawon), and the rest of the cast. If you have not seen this movie, I highly suggest you rent it and watch it ASAP.

The Play: I recently saw “Rent” live on stage and although it didn’t have the original broadway cast (Idina, Tracie, Rosario, Jesse, and Wilson) it did cast Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal who are two of the most phenomenal male actors (in my opinion) to ever hit broadway. As you must be aware before comparing the two- any play vs. movie original  going to be completely different. It’s like reading a Harry Potter book, then trying to compare it to the movie. They’re different. However, the play versus the DVD are VERY similar. The play may not be as descriptive, but it is just as good.  The musical numbers on stage were amazing and the set was incredible! It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. If you ever have the opportunity to see “Rent” live on stage – go for it! The actors and actresses captured the emotions so well and being able to see a flawless, almost effortless perfomance right before your eyes is indescribable.

Overall, the movie and the live play “Rent” is absolutely fantastic. I reccomend it to everyone (minues the children folks!) Whether you’re looking for a tear jerker, happy, controversial movie; THIS WILL PLEASE YOU! It’s got everything and keep you singing it’s tunes days after you’ve watched it! 🙂

Thanks for reading my review! 🙂
