After coaching the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter, Georges St. Pierre will defend his belt against American Kickboxing Academy standout Josh Koscheck in UFC 123. St. Pierre notched his fourth straight title defense with a unanimous decision win over Dan Hardy at UFC 111 in Newark, N.J., last March. St. Pierre hasn’t lost since 2007 when he was knocked out by Matt Serra. In his 22 career bouts, he has only lost twice against Matt Hughes and Matt Serra. St. Pierre would go on to avenge both defeats in dominating manner.
American Kickboxing Academy’s Koscheck, last fought against British striker Paul Daley for three rounds at UFC 113 by decision last May in Montreal. The latter fight, marred in controversy after Daley landed a sucker punch well after the bell, earned Koscheck his upcoming shot at St. Pierre’s title. The Division I All-American wrestler, lost to St. Pierre by decision in their initial encounter at UFC 74 in August 2007. Koscheck started his career with the UFC as a contestant on season one of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Though he did not win the competition, Koscheck went on to win seven of his first eight fights in the UFC, notching wins over Pete Spratt, Dave Menne and avenging his unofficial “TUF” semifinal loss to Diego Sanchez before running into St. Pierre for the first time. Since that loss, the 32-year-old won six of his next eight fights, including a brutal knockout of Japanese star Yoshiyuki Yoshida. I can’t wait to watch the upcoming video for this fight.
