We all go through periods in our life where we make friendships. Some last for a season of our life and some our meant to stay with us for our entire lives. I have been blessed to have some very good friends. Many have been there for a season of my life and many have been there through it all.
In my youth I bonded with a circle of friends whom I know will always be there. The bond is true, I can feel it. Even though we don’t talk daily, weekly, or even sometimes monthly, the bond is there. It has been proven recently as I have been going through a rough patch in my life. My friends have proven what I have known all alone, they are there and they always will be.
Even with the strengths of these friendships, sometimes you can be surprised. I have been pleasantly surprised by a few of this circle of friends. They have gone out of their way to make sure I know they care. But, with every good surprise in life, there seems to be a little disappointment, as well. Perhaps it is the ones we expect the most out of that always deliver the least. But, I still feel the bond, even though you’re not there.
The Friend You Once Were
We met many years ago,
too many to count.
We grew to depend on each other,
there was never a doubt.
For years you were there whenever I called,
We grew in to adults in spite of it all.
Then life changed directions,
our season together had passed.
I still felt connected our friendship would last.
A lifetime of bonding
can’t be broken by distance.
Your friendship was there
I could feel it in my soul.
Years have passed with good times and bad,
But, I never doubted the friendship we had.
A lightning bolt struck,
I needed you here.
Your life was busy,
so I shed a tear.
My love for you lingers,
I can not forget,
the friend you once were
when we had first met.
