15. A VISITOR
It was a regular Christmas for the residents of this neighborhood in California. But, things would become a bit weird when they started seeing an expected visitor in the area. And, you can guess the confusion of the folks when no one had seen an animal like that before.
14. SCAVENGING FOR FOOD
This suspicious creature was found rummaging around for food in garbage cans around the area. One time, the residents finally decided to get a good look at the animal, and they were shocked at what stood before them.
The animal had a pink scaly skin and was completely hairless. He had huge paws and high-set ears. Even with such a description, no one had an idea about what specie the animal belonged to.
The residents decided that they couldn’t let this animal walk through this neighborhood like this. So, they decided to call in the pros; the Funds for Animal Wildlife Center (FFAWC). And, it didn’t take the folks from the FFAWC to figure out that this was actually a black bear suffering from severe mange.
11. BAD CASE
The people at the FFAWC said that this was the worst case of mange they’ve ever seen in the history of their center. They said that she was only a few days away from her death depending on her current condition.
10. EIGHT MONTHS
The bear was named Eve and she was taken to the FFAWC center where she stayed for the next 8 months. The road to recovery was difficult, but her rescuers did every to make it easier.
Anderson from the FFAWC Center said that she’s much more like a bear after the eight month period.
“She’s exploring her enclosure much more, climbing frequently, and has especially enjoyed playing in her pool with the hot days we’ve been having.”
8. FEW YEARS OLD
When the rescuers found Eve, they thought she was a cub. The animal was so weak that she didn’t look that old. But, once she started gaining back some weight and grew her hair out, it became clear that Eve is no cub.
7. BEAR BEHAVIOR
Even after severe sickness, Anderson was surprised to see that her behavior is exactly the same as most wild bears.
“Exploratory and play behavior is exactly what we’d expect from a wild bear. But of course, no bear is complete without plenty of sleep, too.”
Eve was a lot better and now she finally feels like she can play too. The rescuers are really happy with her progress, but the road to recovery wasn’t over.
5. CONTINUED TREATMENT
Eve’s mange had healed up completely as you can see by the hair on her body. But, she still had skin infections from the mange. They were being treated and hopefully, they would dissipate in a couple of months.
4. WATCHING OVER
The rescuers continued to take care of Eve. They’re still monitoring her status and provide any treatment that may be needed for a complete recovery.
3. OPTIMISTIC FOR THE FUTURE
Anderson states that the FFAWC is quite hopeful for a total recovery. They were really impressed by her progress and feel that she’d soon be on her way to the wild life.
2. GREAT EXAMPLE
Eve’s case is a huge step forward for organization like FFAWC. Anderson went forward to explain a little bit about the goal of the organization.
“Our main focus is successful rehabilitation and a release back into their native habitat — and Eve is a great example of the many patients we have every year. We’re so delighted at how she’s doing.”
1. WONDERFUL RESCUERS
I think it’s safe to say that this little black bear would have lost her life in some dark alley somewhere. But, the rescuers fro, FFAWC swooped in and saved her life. They nursed her back to health and because of their efforts, Eve would soon be back in the wild, where she’s meant to be…
