Lions are dominating creatures known to tear everyone and anything placed in front of them. However, no one expected what would happen when this dachshund made his way inside the cage. The outcome of this incident was truly mesmerizing.
John Reinke is an animal instructor that has had the chance to work with several wild animals. He adopted Tony the Tiger and Bonedigger the lion into his home. The kids both became friends really quickly. And, Reinke noticed this odd relationship and his curiosity was highly peaked.
Bonedigger was a disabled kitty as he was suggering from a metabolic bone disease that made his bone brittle. This would’ve made some other cat weaker, but it only made Bonedigger stronger.
Back in 1994, the trainer fell from a height of 55 feet while bungee jumping. He was left with both feet broken and it was said that he’d never walk again.
LIFE CHANGING NEWS
The doctors were forced to amputate both of John’s legs after five years of rehab. The operation opened his eyes and he realized his passion for animals and understood exactly what he had to do.
The accident brought him closer to Bonedigger who too was suffering from a disability. It was as if the lion did the same thing. Both of them were forming a bond that looked unbreakable. However, bonedigger was growing bigger everyday.
MOVING TO THEIR NEW HOUSE
Both Tony and Bonedigger were now too big to stay in a small house. That’s why John accomodated them at the Wynnewood Animal Park in Oklahoma. With the perfect enclosures, this was a great place for these two to spend their life.
Bonedigger had just lost John and Tony was taken to live with the other tigers. There were no friends for the lion and he paced around his enclosure constantly. There were no other lions in the park and he was living in a huge cage, all by himself.
The park had a group of four dachshunds as their mascots. The dogs roamed freely around the estate. They usually hanged around the cafeteria for obvious reasons. The pack leader was a dog named Abby, she was small but she protected her pack.
MAKING NEW FRIENDS
The pack loved interacting with everyone. Whether it was animals or the visitors, they were overjoyed to meet new friends. So, they were quick to visit Bonedigger. But, apparently, Bonedigger wasn’t used to all that attention.
The park decided to introduce Abby and Bonedigger. It seemed like a good move
to make them both friends since both were really friendly and known to be friends with other species. Both animals were on a leash, and surprising, Bonedigger was terrified even though Abby was excited to meet a new friend.
FRIENDS AT FIRST SIGHT
The park didn’t give up. They tried once again and this time Bonedigger was more calm then before. But, now he wanted to assert his dominance and he let out an almighty roar. Abby was quickly led out of the cage.
Apparently, third time was the charm. Abby was freed inside the cage and she somehow got the lion to play. He walked over to Abby and almost touched her, then started to sniff her fur.
SEAL OF APPROVAL
The lion had certain toys from John delivered to him so he would feel at home. Abby found that stash and Bonedigger ran to protect it. However, Abby’s reaction shocked everyone. She licked him on the nose!
TIME TO MOVE
Bonedigger and Abby became great friends and the park decided to let them settle. They moved the two to a bigger barn like enclosure where they could watch the rest of the park easily.
MEETING THE PACK
Now that he was comfortable around Abby, the park decided to let the lion meet the rest of the pack. Fortunately, he took them in like family.
The dogs and Bonedigger are pretty much inseparable. They don’t live together, but spend most of the day with each other. Whenever, they’re not together, Bonedigger just sits and waits for them to return.
