Simon bought his cabin in the woods to serve as a getaway, but ever since he’s owned that small cabin, the trapdoor under his kitchen table has been constantly bothering him. He had never tried to learn what was behind that door…
Honestly, the homeowner had a lot of exploring in the outdoors and postponed opening the trapdoor. That is until a handyman comes over to help him solve the mystery!
#19. Exploring His New Home
After Simon was done walking around the woods, he knew he should open that trapdoor one day. Nonetheless, he postponed it for months. What if it was a room filled with treasures or hid some antiques?
Simon had a secret room and he didn’t have the guts to explore it, fearing what he could find. Thinking it was creepy for a cabin in the woods to have a hidden trapdoor, he chose not to open the door. Then, he had guests…
#18. What’s In There?
Simon had friends and family come over to his cabin and as he made them tea, they kept asking what was under the dining table. Although it was sometimes hidden by a rug, it still looked odd since the trapdoor was bumpy.
When they asked what was wrong with the floor, Simon told them about the trapdoor which he didn’t open so far. Everyone was suspicious. What was behind that door? Was Simon actually lying and hiding something?
#17. Surrounded By Nature
Simon’s dream was to be surrounded by nature and loved exploring the area around his cabin. He would go on long walks with his dog. He would rather not open that trapdoor at all…
What if there was something odd under his cabin and it would make him move to a different place? He liked his new location too much to ruin it. But his curiosity got the best of him one day!
#16. Calling the Handyman
As days passed, Simon couldn’t stop thinking about that trapdoor. He had to do something about it or he wouldn’t sleep nights! What was lurking under his house? It was time to look under that door…
This is why he decided to call Handyman John to come help him take a look inside. All of a sudden, chilling scenes from horror movies began flashing before his eyes. Here’s what they discovered!
#15. ‘Sirbumpsalot’ Documenting the Discovery
The whole story was posted in Imgur by Simon under his nickname ‘Sirbumpsalot.’ He decided to record the events just in case, so he snapped photos and updated the community on their discovery.
Slowly, the story unfolded: “Never had the guts to open it… Handyman came by and was all too eager to have a look,” Simon wrote in Imgur. It soon became obvious that Simon was right about the creepy trapdoor!
#14. Opening The Creaky Door
The handyman was eager to see what was behind the creaky door, so he propped it open. The two immediately regretted this decision. Simon was right about not wanting to go down there!
The first look revealed the wood underneath was rotten and there were funnel-weaver spiders everywhere. Those spiders’ venom can rot human flesh, which means the hole was extremely dangerous! Can you believe they even went inside there?
#13. Foul Smell!
What made that space so unpleasant except for the creepy venomous spiders? It was smelly and damp! It looked like it hadn’t been used for quite a while… Could there be something inside?
There was a rusty ladder and the flashlight revealed chipped concrete that lined that hole. The two men knew the place hadn’t been opened in years! Iron and moldy rust were on that ladder which Simon decided to finally descend!
#12. Taking a Better Look
As John peered into the darkness and moved his flashlight around, he saw something started moving in the shadows. Backing off, he looked at Simon and the two began getting anxious. What was going on?
John looked as if he’d seen a ghost and Simon didn’t understand what was wrong. As John began explaining what he’s seen, Simon said he did hear tales of hikers disappearing. This cabin had been abandoned for some years before Simon bought it. Was this hole part of the mysterious disappearings?
#11. Releasing the Spiders
The only way the two men could find out was to get down that ladder and see if they find what this hole was used for. But first, they had to trap each spider and release them outside. With the skin-crawling creatures out of their way, they were ready to get a closer look inside…
John and Simon each grabbed a flashlight and tried their best to hold their breaths as they descended the ladder. He looked around him and it was creepy!
#10. “Yeah, Creepy…”
“Yeah, creepy…” he wrote in his post, describing the first image from inside the cellar. Then, he discovered a few items: “There seems to be a faucet. And ventilation. A bomb shelter maybe? Or a cistern?”
A few moments later, he saw something that was so repulsive he froze on the spot. John wasn’t looking that way, but as soon as he realized Simon didn’t move, he too shone his flashlight towards the corner of the room…
#9. The “Unidentified Gnarliness”
In his next photo, SirBumpsALot said that in the corner of the room there was some “Unidentified gnarliness,” which made spiders avoid that spot!
The concrete through was filled with a gelatinous slime. The trough was big enough to hold a human and the unidentifiable ooze was looking too suspicious to touch. It did look like it had been there for years. The smell came from that ooze…
#8. John and Simon Nearly Threw Up
The ooze and the mold and slime were filled with some roots that looked like tentacles. Whatever that was, they wouldn’t dare touch it! Not sure what those remains were from, John and Simon turned back towards the ladder.
After a few minutes of overcoming their fear, the two men stood in the kitchen, gasping for some fresh air. Then, they gathered some more courage and got back in the dark cellar. The again went over towards the gooey mass…
#7. The Unidentified Ooze
“Broke up the unidentified gooey mass,” wrote Simon in his post. At first, the two men hoped it wasn’t the remains of a missing person. Simon used a stick to poke at the goo and saw something floating at the top.
Thankfully, it wasn’t something out of a horror movie! “Turns out it was just a tangle of roots soaking in the rusty water. But we also seem to have some of the Super Mario movie fungus. Looked pretty sinister, dotted with gooey drops of who-knows-what sort of nope-erry.”
#6. What Was The Room For?
Now apart from the spiders, fungi and the strange ooze that frightened the two grown men, Simon and John asked themselves what had this room been built for?
“Built as a cellar for cleaning game maybe? Cold storage? A bunker?” asked Simon the community on Imgur that had been asking for more photos and details about the mysterious trap door… Then, John noticed something at the back of the cellar!
#5. A Hole?
“The back wall had a little opening,” wrote Simon in his post. If finding a trap door in a cabin was strange, then this hole made it even creepier, spiders and goo aside! Now what was the purpose of that hole?
Was it leading to another room? The men hesitated before continuing their adventure under Simon’s cabin. John shone the flashlight towards that hole to see what was inside and realized it was a pile… of something!
#4. Charred Remains
The pile looked like charred remains, but there was no furnace or tools there to lit fires in a basement. Plus, the place didn’t have ventilation and with such a narrow exit, it was dangerous to start a fire in there.
What had been burning there? It was certainly a pile of ash… John and Simon were ready to go out of that dark and smelly place! It felt like something bad happened there and they didn’t want to waste more time there!
#3. Thinking About The Discovery
As the two men had climbed the rusty ladder, they closed the trap door and sat at the kitchen table, wondering what to do with the information from their discovery. Then, the two decided what to do after that…
Simon concluded that it was better to reinforce that door “so no one falls through into the underworld.” Joke aside, he also said that the door would remain closed, but he would think about what to do with the extra space.
#2. Using The Cellar… Sometime in the Future
“Looks like we’re just going to leave that closed for now and brainstorm possible uses for when the time is right…,” said Simon. He locked the trapdoor and decided to leave the kitchen table on top of it until he thought of its new purpose.
It looked that the secret room was the source of many unanswered questions. This is why Simon said he’d just think of it as an extra space, fearing his mind would wonder to sinister thoughts.
#1. A Project for the Future
Simon said repurposing that space would be a future project. The post on Imgur was updated in 2016, when he announced the community that he would go back inside to learn more about the space. However, he then said that because he won a free trip to India, he’d have to postpone the “Repurpose the Hell Room” project.
Simon was better off enjoying his vacation in India then going back into that hole that houses creepy crawlies and mold! We think he and John would rather postpone that project for later on!
